Happiness is a Hotel called…

22nd May, 2015 | Article By Melissa Riccio

I have just come back from the Dominican Republic, which I booked with Premier Travel.  We went on the new Thomson Dreamliner from London Gatwick, the plane itself was very spacious as it had plenty of room to move around, easing the aches of a nine hour flight.  The staff on board were very helpful and made sure all of us were comfortable.  The inflight entertainment was excellent, there was something for everyone.  As well as having the films to choose from there was music, games and TV programs.  This kept me pretty much entertained for the duration of the flight.  We also had a three course meal that we had already paid for and snacks that came through the cabin on two occasions that would have to be paid for. The meal itself was appetising, I really enjoyed it and about an hour before we landed we had afternoon tea as well.

We had a private transfer to our hotel, the Royalton Punta Cana which was fine.  Once we arrived at the hotel there were staff waiting for us with a cocktail, we were shown to reception and then checked in.  This was quick and efficient and we did not have to wait.  I feel that the private transfer did help with this due to not having to drop other people.  We went to a room and someone took our luggage we did not have to carry our suitcases to our rooms which was a good start to the holiday.  The room was lovely, exactly how it was shown in the brochure, the bathroom was immaculate.  I could not fault the room in the slightest.

There were seven A la carte restaurants within two resorts, with the Royalton you share the facilities with the Memorise Splash Resort.  Some of the restaurants are in the other resort so you can use their facilities too.  The food at all of the restaurants is lovely and the buffet restaurant has a huge variety of food.  There is a little train that goes between the two resorts every ten minutes so it is very easy to access.  There is a towel bar where you can go to get new towels from, your old towels can go into the bins after use, which are situated all around the pool area.  The beach is beautiful.  The sand is lovely and the sea is amazing!  It can be a bit choppy, but you are on the Atlantic Ocean side of the island so this to be expected.  The entertainment was good, there was something different on every night that we were there.

We went at the end of April and the weather was amazing!  One thing that I would recommend is to take some inset repellent, the first couple of days we got bitten a considerable amount.  However, once we started using insect repellent we were absolutely fine.

Overall I felt that the country was lovely, the flight was perfect and the hotel was amazing and the overall experience has made me want to go back.  A fabulous holiday that I will not forget in a long time.
