Wine making in Montefollonico

20th April, 2016 | Article By Cook in Tuscany

Vittiro is a 5th generation winemaker in Montefollonico, Tuscany, Italy.

Innocenti Wines recipes have been in the Innocenti family for 100’s of years.

The cellar buildings of the winery date back to end of the 13th century  and are in the small, well-preserved medieval town of Montefollonico.

A narrow alley-way which now forms part of the building leads to a terraced garden on the ancient walls, where tastings are held and from which a spectacular view over the whole of the Val di Chiana is enjoyed.

They produce less than 35,000 bottles per year and Vittorio and his son, Tomaso, produce all of their wines in a traditional fashion, which – while time consuming – ensures a higher quality product.

The most notable wines are the Nobile di Montepulciano, the Acerone, and the Vin Santo.
