An unique way of shrimping in Sarawak using this net called Paka in local Malay language, is very seasonal. Usually right after the Lunar New Year, men and women would be looking at the skies and the sea off the northern coast of Sarawak to wait for a pink shimmering water. That would be the signal of the exciting arrival of Bubuk or Krill. From Bubuk, families make the delectable shrimp paste called belacan, which is highly sort after in Malaysia and surrounding countries.
