Florida Hideaway

28th September, 2015 | Article By Matthew Wallis

We’ve just come back from a couple of weeks in Florida. We wanted to get some sun before a busy summer in the UK.  The weather is perfect in late April / May and if you can avoid the school holidays it can be very reasonable.

Southern Dunes is a good 20 mins south of Orlando and wow what a place – it’s away from all the commercialised area but near enough if you do want to venture out.  We had a day over on the Atlantic coast at Coco beach, it’s just miles of clean sandy beaches and only 45 mins drive.

The house we stayed in was on the Southern Dunes golf course resort.  It’s absolutely beautiful there, one of the nicest golf courses in Florida and the house we stayed in was overlooking the first green (but far enough away to be very private and peaceful).  It was completely decked out with everything you need including free high speed internet, essential nowadays.  It was peaceful and relaxing (not what you imagine from this area of Florida).

If you can get a cheap flight its very reasonable.  Our car hire worked out at about £15 a day and the 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom house, newly decorated with a swimming pool, worked out at £70 a day – cheaper than a Premier Inn hotel!  We are already planning to head back there next year.
