Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort

25th March, 2015 | Article By Judy Kong Jing

Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort (BTRR) is located in the Miri-Bintulu area, and is on the way to Lambir Hills or Bintulu. The resort is situated in the heart of nature, surrounded by wildlife with many different species of birds, butterflies, insects and sometimes deer and horses to observe.

When we arrived, we went for a walk around the resort, then took a ride on the “Big Truck” to see more of the area. The guide explained a little about each place we saw, which was around Batu Niah, Lambir, and Jinbaoshan. We visited a small farm house, where there were roosters, hens, and even lots of goats running around. Next we went for a boat ride. The guide asked us to feed some fish in a pond we came across, and told us that those fish would be our lunch and dinner! For the last part of our tour we visited a waterfall, which looked so beautiful cascading onto the rocks.

At the end of our tour, it was time to check in. The resort has a few types of rooms: the Engkabang Room, Meranti Chalet, Nyatoh Chalet, Merbau Chalet, Kapur Chalet, Selangan Chalet, Belian Spa Chalet and Long House. We chose to stay in the Engkabang Room which is in the main building.

After we had settled our luggage, we went to have a delicious buffet lunch at One Hill Tree Cafe located next to the main building. Then we took a nap, as later we wanted to have a tea break at the Cafe and go for a swim in the pool.

That evening, we changed into our swimming suits and we had a quick tea break, there were lots of local cakes and ABC (a local ice dessert) then we went to the pool and swam. The pool is separated into two, one for adults and one for kids. There is also a big slide into the pool which was TOO popular. I didn’t get to go on that because there were so many people queuing up for it.

We had a buffet dinner at the Oil Palm Restaurant and Bar. The best of the buffet was the black pepper lamb. I could have eaten the whole plate! After dinner, we joined the Night Walk. It was nice to listen to the Nature Music but it was also a bit scary because the guide told us there would be wild boar roaming around during the night.

This was just an overnight stay. So, the next morning we had our breakfast at the One Hill Tree Cafe, I thoroughly enjoyed Nasi Lemak and the cereal with fresh milk. After breakfast, we checked out and I bought a fresh coconut at the souvenir shop and also a t-shirt and keychain.

I would recommend a trip to this resort to all nature lovers visiting Miri, Sarawak!
