A Freediver

A very different experience.  Hi, my name is Mohamed Elmekkawi.  I am a free-diver, ‘The Freediver’ and I am very lucky to be living and working in a beautiful place like the Mediterranean Island of Cyprus.  The climate is sunny and warm and the surroundings are idyllic.  I feel very privileged to be working in a job which is my passion and love.  I realised very early on in my life that I had this unusual ability to breath hold, and have since trained up to free dive and teach it to as many others as I can.

For those of you who have never heard of this, free-diving is a form of underwater diving that relies on a diver’s ability to hold his or her breath until resurfacing, rather than on the use of a breathing apparatus such as scuba gear.

Have you ever dreamed of swimming like a dolphin, or wondered what it feels like to glide through the ocean just holding your breath?  It is magical, but I take my job very seriously, beginners must learn how to dive safely first so they start with a Free-diving Basic Course and then advance at their own pace.  People of all ages, from 16 years old upwards, come from all over the world to Larnaca, Cyprus, to learn free-diving in the warm waters of The Mediterranean.

I can assure you that once you have tried free-diving you will want to return and dive deeper and deeper and hold your breath longer and longer and be closer to the fish.  An unforgettable experience where you will find all of your stresses  and worries melting away.
